The stimulus for this editorial is a great speech that I did not hear, delivered by a great man whom I never met.
Fortunately, the speech1 and details of the man's life, his outstanding character, and his extraordinary achievements are well documented.2–4 Here, then, is my tribute to the late Dr. Oscar Creech, Jr., and to his Ivy Day Address to medical students at Tulane University on 1 June 1957.
