Conditions for Publication
Before acceptance of an article, all authors must sign the Conditions for Publication form to confirm scientific responsibility, attest to exclusive publication, and disclose any commercial associations that may represent conflicts of interest.
Scientific Responsibility (Authorship)
In accordance with ICMJE criteria, all authors must attest that they have participated substantially in the conception and design of the work, in the acquisition of data, or in the analysis and interpretation of data (when applicable). They must also confirm that they have participated in the writing of the manuscript and have approved the final version to be published. They should have participated sufficiently to take public responsibility for the work.
In addition, if requested, authors should be able to produce for examination the data upon which the manuscript is based or other components, such as images.
Although limits for the maximum number of authors have been set for each article type, individuals who made substantive contributions should be included. For example, radiologists and pathologists whose studies contributed to the resolution of medical or surgical problems can be considered authors.
Acknowledgments
Contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be recognized in the acknowledgments, rather than given authorship. For example, technical help, writing assistance, or general support from a department chair should be acknowledged.
Important: Acknowledged persons must send an e-mail to THIJEditor@texasheart.org, stating their agreement to be named.
Exclusive Publication
Authors must affirm that they have not submitted or published the manuscript—or any other work with substantially similar content—elsewhere. Any potential for duplicate publication should be disclosed on the Conditions for Publication form. This includes symposia, transactions, book chapters, articles published by invitation, and preliminary publications of any kind except abstracts of 400 words or less.
Note: The Texas Heart Institute Journal does not necessarily preclude publishing a complete report that follows publication of a preliminary report, a paper that has been presented at a scientific meeting but has not appeared in print, a paper rejected elsewhere, or a paper archived on a preprint server.
Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any commercial association that might pose a conflict of interest in connection with the manuscript. Research or project support from commercial firms, private foundations, and government should be acknowledged.
